Seikei University is located in the city of Kichijoji, a leafy area near the heart of Tokyo. Faculty members and students alike participate in education that raises awareness of environmental protection while utilizing the features of the nature-rich campus. One of their endeavors is the maintenance of their facilities. They construct new school buildings that are environmentally conscious, revamp existing school buildings, and maintain facilities that utilize environmental technology.
For the revamp of the classrooms in Building No.8, Kotobuki Seating implemented the SD-770 series that provides fixed seating.
Prior to the revamp, the desk seats had a structure in which the legs of the seats were joined with the legs of the desk behind it. However, for the SD-770 series, the legs of each seat are independent. The school decided to utilize this product to allow students to easily pass through the space behind seats.
In classroom 101, a maximum of 5 seats are joined. For example, if 2 students sit on the seats at the ends, the 3 seats in the middle will be unoccupied. However, if there is already a student seated in the seat at the end, other students tend to avoid the seats in the middle because it is difficult to move past seats that are occupied. If all of the seats are filled from the ends, it becomes difficult for students who arrive later to find a seat.
The SD-770 series allows seated students to create space for others to pass behind their own seat and in front of the desk behind it by leaning forward while seated. Since there is no need for seated students to stand up to allow students who arrive later to pass, students can select their seats and sit down without having to worry about bothering others. This is the greatest advantage of seats with independent legs.
Additionally, the desk will not shake when the seats to the front and side move, and the seat will not vibrate when a student is writing in the seat to the back. This allows students to participate in class without any stress or concerns.
Classroom 304 contains the SD-610FF2 series, which is a movable desk, in order to allow active learning classes. A caster emerges from the legs of the desk when the lift-up lever below the board is pressed. Stacking Chair FC-882 was the seat chosen to pair with these desks.Since the SD-770 series providing fixed seating has a unified design with the movable SD-610FF2 series and FC-882, we have created harmonious classroom spaces throughout Building No.8.
