Project Description

Seikei University is located in the city of Kichijoji, a leafy area near the heart of Tokyo. Faculty members and students alike participate in education that raises awareness of environmental protection while utilizing the features of the nature-rich campus. One of their endeavors is the maintenance of their facilities. They construct new school buildings that are environmentally conscious, revamp existing school buildings, and maintain facilities that utilize environmental technology.

For the renewal of the classrooms in Building No.5, we implemented the SD-331 series that provides fixed seating.

Prior to the revamp, users had to manually lower the seats before sitting in them, but the SD-331 series is equipped with a swing up mechanism, in which the seat moves to follow the movement of the user’s buttocks and hamstrings when sitting down and standing up. Therefore, students can sit down easily just by placing their buttocks on the seat and sitting down, even when they are carrying bags.

The swing up mechanism also provides the benefit of enabling large boards. Because the range of motion of the seat is small, it will not hit the board even if the board is large. For this revamp, we extended the depth of the board by 20mm without having to change the distance between desk seats.

In addition, since the seat is facing forward when it is unoccupied, even if the student seated behind kicks the seat, the surface of the seat is not soiled. The classroom space remains clean at all times.
