Project Description
Hall seating rejuvenated through a major renovation
Nishio City Cultural Hall underwent a large-scale renovation and reopened in January 2025 under its new nickname, Nishishin Cultural Hall “Chachatto Hall.”
The Large Hall, which received seismic reinforcement of the ceiling, upgraded acoustic systems, and new flooring, has been completely renewed. Among the most striking changes is the seating. The former monotone chairs—simple designs consisting of basic cushions mounted on a synthetic resin base—were replaced with the
TS-19 series “Unison” seats
. These new chairs feature solid wood for both the backrest and seat, aluminum die-cast legs finished in a refined dark brown, and vivid red upholstery that adds a strong visual accent. This model was selected by facility representatives after extensive sit-test comparisons.
Enhanced comfort and movement: Dimensions updated for the modern era
The original seating was designed with a simple two-dimensional curved backrest based on the average Japanese physique of the 1980s, which no longer met contemporary comfort expectations. The newly installed TS-19 series incorporates an ergonomic three-dimensional curved backrest that conforms more naturally to the human body. The seat is equipped with highly durable serpentine springs that evenly distribute body weight, helping to reduce fatigue during extended performances. Molded polyurethane cushions gently support the body while encouraging an ideal posture for viewing.
A distinctive design element that contributes to a lighter visual impression is the angled wedge beneath the armrest. This creates open space that allows seated guests to draw their knees inward, keeping the aisle in front wider and making it easier for others to pass. The “
Spacia
” specification further enhances mobility by thinning the front edge of the seat, enabling guests to pull their feet farther back under the chair. This expanded range of motion supports smoother standing and sitting. In addition, because the rear two-thirds of the fan-shaped seating area is tiered, handrails were integrated into the backrests of seats facing vertical aisles to enhance safety.
The dimensions of the seating were also updated to meet modern standards. The backrest height increased from 810 mm to 900 mm, and the seat width expanded from 480 mm to 520 mm. By reducing the total seating capacity from 1,217 to 1,111 seats, the hall now provides a more spacious and relaxing environment for all visitors.
Easy maintenance to preserve long-term beauty
Ease of maintenance was another important factor in the selection of these chairs. The legs are made of robust aluminum die-cast material, which offers excellent resistance to scratches caused by shoes or luggage, helping to maintain their appearance over time. The red upholstery is from the FP series, marking its first use in a theater or hall setting in Aichi Prefecture. Made from 100% polyester, it is highly durable and easy to care for, with most removable stains using only water.
Facility overview
Nishishin Cultural Hall “Chachatto Hall” serves as a center for cultural exchange, featuring both a Large Hall and a Small Hall. After undergoing its first major renovation since opening in 1980, the facility reopened in January 2025. In addition to the complete renovation of the Large Hall, several meeting rooms were converted into creative studios for dance and music, and a public plaza for outdoor events was developed in front of the building. The new nickname was provided through a naming rights agreement with Nishio Shinkin Bank. The opening New Year’s concert attracted significant local attention and set high expectations for the revitalized cultural venue.
