Project Description

Named after the University's founding anniversary on November 5th, 'November Hall' reopened sporting a new look

Kindai University's November Hall reopened after renovation in April 2022, almost 40 years after it was first built. The large-scale renovation including earthquake-resistant reinforcements was undertaken in anticipation of the forthcoming centenary.
The Main Hall with an atrium-style occupies floors 1 through 3. It has hosted various events such as seminars, and live concerts in addition to ceremonies, lectures and other internal events. However, lately, concerns have arisen regarding the deteriorated seats and discomfort caused by outdated specifications. Therefore, in this renovation, all seats were replaced with new ones tailored to support the diverse physiques of today's generation. The transformed seating offers an even more enjoyable experience for the visitors.

Three key points in creating a smooth seating layout

The seating area features 1,244 seats from the TS-19 series. The notch below the armrest accentuates the design of the seat. It is a universal design allowing seated individuals to tuck their knees in this space and to give smooth access to those who wish to pass through the aisle.
We have used 'Spacia' seats in the hall. Their seat tapers towards its tip where it touches the back of the seated person's knees.
As compared to traditional seat designs, Spacia provides more space for pulling in the legs when standing up from the seat. This ample space ensures that you do not need to lean on the armrest when leaving the seat. Coupled with the notched leg design, the barrier-free seat contributes to easy passage and accessibility.
To build on the 'smooth passage' created by the combination of the TS-19 series and Spacia, a retractable memo pad is installed. Prior to the renovation, the seats were equipped with collapsible back tables. However, when these tables were pulled out, they took over the aisle space, making it impossible for people to pass through when you were writing. However, with a memo pad, although the writing space is smaller than the table, it unfolds on the seated individual's lap, granting uninterrupted passage through the aisle at all times. After comparing and considering products at Kotobuki Seating's showroom, university officials decided to go with the memo pad as it granted freedom of movement.

Design and appearance create a comfortable seating experience

The key to ensure comfortable seating for extended periods lies in the advancement of specifications and dimensions. The flat backrest has been transformed into a three-dimensional curved shape that conforms to the shape of the human body while sitting. Latest corrugated springs, refined through improvements, are fitted into the seat for even distribution of body pressure. In addition, the seat height has been increased by 25mm compared to the previous seats to accommodate the physique of modern individuals, and the seat width has been set slightly wider at 520mm, providing more space. The thoroughly updated design, tailored to the times, allows for a comfortable and spacious seating experience.
The seat upholstery has transitioned from warm colors resembling the walls and ceiling to a blue color inspired by the school's colors. Three different shades of blue are used in the upholstery. When viewed from the stage, their arrangement makes them stand out visually like diagonal lines in the auditorium. The beautiful color scheme, reminiscent of the surging sea, also brings to mind the 'Kindai Tuna,' which was successfully cultivated artificially for the first time in the world at Kindai University, and gives a strong impression of the renewal.

Facility Overview

Following the 'Super Kindai University Project,' a campus development project conducted from 2014 to 2020 at Kindai University's Higashiosaka Campus, the November Hall has undergone renovation. The idea behind the renovation was to focus on enhancing versatility for various events, improving convenience, and considering environmental aspects. State-of-the-art sound and light equipment has been installed in both the Main and Small Halls. Also, along with the seating in the Main Hall being completely replaced, the air-conditioning equipment has been upgraded, and the lighting has been transitioned to LED technology.
