Project Description

Kyoto Tachibana University's new center for learning 'Academic Links'

The new 'Academic Links' building, which has become the face of Kyoto Tachibana University, was completed in March 2021.
After passing through the glass-walled entrance, visitors are greeted by an impressive grand staircase. This staircase also doubles as seats during events. It is connected to the upper floor by a stairwell, creating a place with a vertical sense of freedom.
The autonomous guide robot 'tachibo' is placed in the building and can guide you to your destination with a simple touch panel operation, so even first-time visitors can rest assured.
The H301 and H302 lecture rooms are located on the third floor of the Academic Links building, where the warmth of wood used in many places combines with the latest technology.
Lecture rooms with a high occupancy rate, used by many students. A high level of comfort was required of the desk chair to be installed. Hence, the combination of the Active Learning Desk SD-610FF2 series and THE HERRINGBONE Stacking Chair FC-873 was used in the lecture rooms.

SD-610FF2 series for ultimate ease of use

The SD-610FF2 series is a mobile desk with excellent flexibility.
When you pull the handy lever under the top panel, the casters stored in the legs come out, allowing free movement of the desk. Since it is an assemble-once-move-anytime design, you can quickly change the layout of the space while leaving your textbooks, notebooks, and other belongings on the desk. From lectures to group work to presentations to active learning that requires multiple layout conversions, this desk can quickly adapt and deliver. Since it is easy to restore the original layout, the desk also plays a role in the management of lecture rooms.
On the other hand, when the desk is in use, the casters are retracted into the legs and the leg bases are firmly grounded to the floor, providing exceptional stability. This mechanism solves the problem of casters not being fixed and thus the desk moving around, which is a common problem with movable desks. This desk supports an environment where students can concentrate on studies during lectures.
Easy to move when shifting, hard to move when in use. This desk is designed for ultimate ease of use.

Comfortable space created by design and functionality

THE HERRINGBONE stacking chair FC-873 has a herringbone pattern designed into the backrest. Decorative designs line the entire surface of the lecture room, creating a 'translucent' effect that does not visually overwhelm the space. The soft ambience created by the herringbone pattern loosens the tense atmosphere of the lecture room and makes the space lively. The backrest of the chair allows air to pass through, and is also effective in ensuring 'ventilation' while being gentle on the body.
These chairs are not only well-designed, but they are also very efficient. The three-dimensionally curved back that perfectly fits the body and the cushioned seat reduce fatigue that is usually felt when sitting for long periods, while maintaining the correct 'writing' and 'listening' postures during lectures.
The handle holes on the backrest are thick all around and easy to grip, so you can comfortably pull the chair back with your hand. Weighing only 4.1 kg, its shape is designed for stability of the chair, making it easy to smoothly carry and stack for layout changes. Every detail has been considered to create an efficient lecture room that everyone can use comfortably.
The concept of 'a chair that nurtures soft people' resulted in the design of the FC-873. We assist build human resources who can accept and adapt to varied values and personalities at Kyoto Tachibana University, which will attract more and more diverse students in the future.

Kotobuki Seating chairs are also used in the computer classroom on the 5th floor. The chair legs have attached casters, and the seat can be raised and lowered with a one-touch movement of the lever under the seat. This allows users to establish the best position and height to fit their physique while seated. Like the chairs in the lecture rooms, these chairs also have excellent functionality and make students' PC work more comfortable.
