Project Description

The Grand Hall of the Minoh Theatre For The Performing Arts, built in the motif of the Minoh Otaki Falls

The 'Minoh Theatre For The Performing Arts', a new landmark in Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture, opened in August 2021.
The 1401-seat Grand Hall can be used for diverse events, from live performances such as concerts, ballets, musicals, and plays to previews and lectures. The stage is equipped with a self-propelled acoustic reflector, and the acoustical design enables you to enjoy concerts by top performers to the fullest.
The Grand Hall, designed in the motif of Minoh's famous "Minoh Otaki" waterfall, attracts two million tourists annually. The pattern on the ceiling represents the sunlight filtering through the trees, the illuminated wooden ribs represent the splash of the waterfall, the uneven concrete walls represent the rocks of the waterfall, the curved surface of the seats represents a sluice gate, and the seats represent the autumn leaves falling on the water.

Seating area's shape grants easy view of the stage to every seat

All of the seats are arranged in a circular arc, making it easy to see the stage from any seat. The seating area is divided into three blocks: the center, left and right. It is arranged so that all seats can easily maintain line of sight. Moreover, the seating is arranged in a 'mortar-shaped' structure, with the height of the seating tiers varying in two stages and the tier difference increasing as you move toward the rear of the seats, for better visibility.

A chair with both, design and comfort

The chairs in the seating area, which resemble autumn leaves, have intricate designs throughout.
The three-dimensionally curved back board of the chair follows the S-curve of the human spine and is curved laterally to slightly wrap around the back; it is cushioned to enhance seating comfort. The square shape of the backrest gives the chair a sleek, modern look. The lower part of the back has curved joints reminiscent of the form of a leaf to create a soft ambience, and different colors are painted around the curves to add a three-dimensional effect.
The armrests are shaped so that their tips are slightly extended toward the floor. The armrests seemingly float due to a gap between them and the leg panels, adding a light impression to the stately chair. The leg panels on the aisle side are designed with straight and curved pieces interlaced to provide a sense of oneness across the chair.
Four colors were randomly arranged in the upholstery to depict the seating area's theme, 'autumn leaves'. The brightly colored plain weave of the upholstery gives the entire hall a graceful impression. The chair's backrest is quilted with an image of leaf veins, creating an even more stunning impression.

You can experience a variety of cultures and arts in the Grand Hall, where you can feel the nature of Minoh. It is well-liked by residents and many artists, and hopes are strong that it will become Minoh City's arts hub.

Facility Overview

The Minoh Theatre For The Performing Arts was built to replace the Green Hall (Minoh City Civic Hall), which was established in 1966. It consists of a Grand Hall for concerts and plays, and a Theatre that can be easily used by citizens and students for presentations and gatherings.
The building was designed with the motif of 'Mino (winnowing basket)', from which the name Minoh is said to have originated, and 'fiber,' which symbolizes the Minoh Semba area. Each facility in this place is likened to a box, and the formation consists of rhythmic rows of boxes, each with its own feel, such as a 'weaving screen' box and a box covered with wooden louvers. The architectural design, which is connected to the inside of the hall, presents a distinct and profound landscape.
Bringing culture to the city, to people, and to the future. Minoh City has a new asset with the addition of this theatre.
