Project Description

A Living Monument: A Tribute to Valor

The National Medal of Honor Museum is envisioned as a living monument—an architectural tribute that honors the courage, sacrifice, and service of Medal of Honor Recipients while inspiring visitors to embody those same values. The museum’s bold design features a dramatic 200-by-200-foot Exhibition Hall suspended 40 feet in the air, supported by monumental columns representing branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Within this solemn structure, the Col. Neel E. Kearby Theater serves as the central programming centerpiece. This world-class venue features 3,100 square feet of space, including a 1,000-square-foot stage and seating for 233 guests plus six ADA-compliant spaces, providing a dynamic platform for speaking engagements, seminars, workshops, and live broadcasts.

Intentional Design for Flexibility and Inclusivity

The design philosophy for the Kearby Theater required integrating advanced audiovisual capabilities and intentional design to create a dynamic yet respectful environment. Reflecting broader trends in modern public spaces, the theater prioritizes flexibility, inclusivity, and immersive storytelling over a static auditorium experience. The layout must seamlessly support both solemn, reverent ceremonies and interactive educational programming, aligning perfectly with the museum’s mission to reach visitors across generations.

Seating that Honors the Experience

Kotobuki Seating International supplied the TSA-71 seating, chosen specifically for its combination of refined aesthetics, ergonomic comfort, and quiet performance. The wood finish harmonizes elegantly with the museum’s material palette, while the compact footprint ensures excellent sightlines and circulation. Inclusive features, such as removable seats and transfer arms, allow the venue to accommodate all guests, reinforcing the museum’s commitment to accessibility.
Since the installation, the TSA-71 has drawn overwhelmingly positive feedback. Visitors consistently highlight the comfort, elegance, and unobstructed views provided by the seating layout, which supports a fully immersive atmosphere. Equally important, the staff has noted the ease of operation, low maintenance requirements, and the acoustic benefits derived from the high-quality materials.

Enhanced Functionality and Lasting Impression

As the museum develops its role as a national center for education and dialogue, the Kearby Theater will remain a central venue for programs hosted by the Griffin Institute, community events, and commemorative ceremonies. By combining historic reverence with modern functionality, the installation ensures that the space provides an elegant, inclusive, and deeply moving experience for every visitor for generations to come.
