Dorrance DOME, Arizona Science Center
Dorrance DOME,
Arizona Science Center
Feb. 10,2026
Planetarium
Project Description
A New Way to See the Stars
For more than forty years, the Arizona Science Center has served as a cornerstone of the Phoenix community. It inspires curiosity and creates immersive learning experiences for visitors of all ages. Inside the center, the Dorrance DOME (formerly the Dorrance Planetarium) remains one of its top attractions. The venue hosts a wide range of events, from educational presentations to live shows.
The Dorrance DOME promotes hands-on learning with the advanced Cosm CX System, which transforms the dome into far more than a traditional planetarium. The space acts as a canvas for vivid, interactive experiences in science, art, history, and astronomy. Guests can enjoy a broad mix of shows that highlight the dome’s impressive technology. Audiences visit from all over to take part in these experiences.
Working with Kotobuki Seating International, Ryan Companies, DLR Group, and Cosm, the Science Center redesigned the DOME with state-of-the-art seating and upgraded systems. The newly renovated space now includes 200 seats—112 fixed and 88 movables—allowing up to 205 guests to relax comfortably. Each chair is built specifically for planetariums, giving visitors an easy, unobstructed view of the LED dome display.
Full Immersion and Comfort
Kotobuki Seating International provides the
TS-50 seats
for the DOME, each built for durability, comfort, and style. These chairs recline fully, giving guests a clear view of the curved ceiling without strain. A simple pull of the lever lets users choose their ideal position.
The seats use molded urethane that resists wear and deformation. Metal wave springs inside the cushions distribute body pressure evenly, adding to the overall comfort. The back panel is made of synthetic resin that helps protect against dirt and damage. Together, these materials ensure the seats stay sturdy and supportive through years of regular use.
Inclusion for All
Accessibility played a major role in the dome’s redesign. The Dorrance DOME now includes five ADA-compliant seats that can be arranged in several configurations. This flexibility ensures guests of all shapes and sizes can enjoy the experience comfortably. By meeting ADA standards, the DOME becomes more welcoming and inclusive for every visitor.
The chairs feature plush fabric and supportive cushions designed to fit the natural curve of the body. This shape provides strong lumbar support and helps guests stay comfortable during longer shows. With top-tier seating and cutting-edge technology, the Dorrance DOME offers its most vibrant experiences yet. Visitors can now journey from Phoenix to anywhere they can imagine—all under one remarkable roof.
