Project Description

A historic ballpark renewed with new value for the modern era

Since its completion in 1924, Hanshin Koshien Stadium has remained one of Japan’s most beloved baseball venues, cherished by generations of fans. To enhance the spectator experience for today’s audiences, the stadium recently underwent a premium renovation focused on creating a more comfortable and refined viewing environment. For this large-scale seating renewal, custom mock-ups were developed in close collaboration with the client to evaluate comfort, appearance, and weather resistance in detail, resulting in fully customized seating specifications tailored specifically for the stadium.

Creating the ultimate relaxation space inside the stadium

The Luxury Boxes, semi-private seating areas located in the upper section of the Green Seats directly behind home plate, were redesigned into a more spacious 15-seat configuration. The renewed layout has been highly praised for both its premium atmosphere and exceptional comfort. Each seat is equipped with an electrically operated reclining function controlled through a panel integrated into the armrest. This mechanism positions the legs nearly level with the heart to distribute body weight evenly and provide a deeply relaxing viewing experience.
When fully reclined, the seats extend to a depth of 1,420 mm while still maintaining a 350 mm aisle clearance, allowing spectators to stretch comfortably without compromising circulation. Each box also includes its own TV monitor, enabling guests to continue watching the game even while reclined. In addition, slot-in tray tables provide a convenient surface for enjoying food and beverages ordered through dedicated in-seat tablets.
To create a more open and resort-like atmosphere, Resort Terrace Seats were newly introduced in the uppermost section of the Breeze Seat area. Combining premium leather bench-style sofas with elegant rattan-inspired detailing, these seats offer groups a relaxed and distinctive way to enjoy the game in a comfortable lounge-like environment.

Renewed outfield seating combining comfort and sustainability

The group seating areas in the first- and third-base Alps Stands and the left outfield were also comprehensively updated. In the Alps Stands, new four-person box seats were introduced with spacious layouts and integrated tables equipped with cup holders, creating an ideal environment for families and groups of friends. In the left outfield area, six-person box seats featuring expansive L-shaped sofas were added, while the number of four-person group seating units was expanded to sixteen, allowing fans to watch the game while socializing comfortably.
Environmental sustainability was also a major priority in the renovation of the general outfield seating. While maintaining the existing seating capacity, only the seat surfaces were replaced with newly designed 3D-contoured models that better support the human body. Existing structural components—including steel legs, connecting pipes, luggage racks, and row plates—were carefully cleaned and reused. This approach significantly reduced waste while successfully upgrading spectator comfort.
