Project Description

A layout tailored to Challenge Schools with a three-part schedule

Tokyo Metropolitan Tachikawamidori High School opened in April 2025 as a Challenge School.
Challenge Schools are a type of part-time high school offering a flexible curriculum divided into morning, afternoon, and evening sessions. Students choose the schedule that best fits their lifestyle and learning pace when enrolling.

Because students are not all on campus at the same time, the school building features a layout designed to meet the unique needs of a Challenge School. The audiovisual hall, in particular, is equipped with a Retractable Seating System from Kotobuki Seating, offering excellent storage efficiency and flexible layout options for variety of uses.

Retractable Seating System supports multipurpose use

The audiovisual hall was conceived as a multipurpose space that can host not only classes, but also orientations, school festivals, dance events, and more.
To support this range of functions, the hall is equipped with Kotobuki Seating’s manually operated Retractable Seating System, which enables flexible room configurations as needed.

The tiered seats can be smoothly deployed or retracted by hand. To store them, the user lifts the seat and backrest, releases the lock using a dedicated handle, folds the unit, slides it safely into its retracted position. Once retracted, the entire system secures against the rear wall, creating a spacious, open floor area.

Chairs with writing tablets ideal for classes and orientations

The seating system features CS01 model chairs, equipped with molded polyurethane cushions on both the seat and backrest. These cushions strike a balance between support and breathability, offering comfort even during extended sessions.
Despite their comfort, each chair folds down to a slim 140 mm profile, allowing for wider aisles when not in use.
Optional writing tablets have also been installed, allowing students to take notes during lectures and orientations. With these features, the hall provides a comfortable and functional learning environment that encourages focus and engagement.

Facility overview

Tokyo Metropolitan Tachikawamidori High School is a part-time high school designed to serve students who have experienced periods of non-attendance or who have withdrawn from previous schools.
As a Challenge School, it offers opportunities for students to rediscover their goals and grow in a positive direction, especially those who may not have been able to fully express their potential in traditional settings.
The school promotes flexible, diverse educational programs in collaboration with local communities and related organizations. Its facility was built with versatility in mind, providing a safe and supportive environment where students can learn at their own pace and take meaningful steps forward.
