Project Description

A complex government building that aims to be a place where functions and people gather

Kuzumaru is a complex government building as a new center in Kuzumaki town, Iwate Prefecture. The name of the facility, Kuzumaru, is a coined word combining “kuzumaki” and “atsumaru” (a word which means “people gather”).
Based on the concept of “gathering functions and people in the center of Kuzumaki,” it combines administrative, social, commercial, industrial, and financial functions from the perspective of a compact city. Opened in November 2022, the five-story government building is equipped with diverse facilities. Retractable Seating System was installed in Maki × Maki Hall, which was built to create a lively atmosphere for the residents, and is used for multiple purposes as a place for indoor interaction.

Fully automatic Retractable Seating System for easy deployment and retraction

The 190-seat Retractable Seating System installed in the Maki × Maki Hall is fully motorized and fully automatic, and can be operated with a single remote switch from seat retract to deploy, making it easy to set up in a short time depending on the purpose. The remote switch has an LCD screen and voice guidance, making it easy for anyone to operate. There is also a function to pause operation if an operation is not performed properly, and troubles and errors can be handled quickly according to the remedies displayed on the LCD screen.
Retractable Seating System can be retracted in the wall, so it can be used for lectures and presentations while it is deployed, and for workshops and exhibitions with desks and chairs placed while retracted.
Normally, the space can be used as a seating area for town activities, and as a shelter in a disaster or other emergency. Retractable Seating System is being introduced nationwide for multipurpose halls in government buildings that serve as disaster prevention centers because of its flexible use of space in preparation for unexpected situations.

Original seats incorporating Kuzumaki's catchphrase

The Type S seat was adopted for Retractable Seating System because of its simplicity. The upholstery is made of a mesh fabric with excellent breathability and strength, providing comfortable seating and environmentally friendly specifications that are resistant to deterioration over long periods of use. Fifty-four TS-6228S fixed seats are located on the second floor. The same upholstery as Retractable Seating System is used to create a sense of unity throughout the hall.
The upholstery also incorporates colors that symbolize Kuzumaki's catchphrase, “The town of milk, wine, and clean energy”. Sand beige (milk), rose wine color (wine), and malachite color (clean energy and forestry) accents are balanced on calm, charcoal colored seats. The colorful seats harmonize beautifully with the warm, wood-filled hall creating a space that will long be loved by the residents for its unmistakable character of Kuzumaki.

Facility Overview

Kuzumaru is a landmark building of the town that houses the functions of Kuzumaki Town Office, a multi-purpose hall called Maki × Maki Hall, Mana Base, which encompasses a library, lounge areas, and study cafes, Freeju, a relaxation space freely available to residents, the secretariat of the town chamber of commerce and industry, and a financial institution. In the second phase of construction, a large-roofed plaza Big Terrace and Morioka Central Fire Station Kuzumaki Branch are scheduled to be constructed on the west side of the facility, and together with Kuzumaki Hospital (medical function) completed in 2017, the project aims to create a centripetal town bustling with activity.
The building shape harmonizes with the surrounding mountain range, and the exterior louvers are designed to resemble bottles of wine, a specialty of the town, and the interior and exterior are decorated in milk and wine colors.
The cozy space with abundant use of local wood is an environmentally friendly facility that embodies the town's catchphrase. As an exchange center overflowing with character unique to Kuzumaki, the town is being developed into an attractive town full of smiling townspeople.
