Project Description

Renewal to extend the life of the venue for cultural activities beloved by Suzuka residents

The Suzuka City Cultural Hall has supported the cultural activities of residents for more than 30 years since its completion in 1988, but it had deteriorate after years of use. Based on the premise of continuing to cherish the facility that is familiar to the public, a large-scale renovation project was commenced to extend its service life. The building was reopened in July 2024 after being closed for approximately two years and three months.
Keyaki Hall, which can accommodate a variety of events such as concerts, plays, and lectures, has 466 seats arranged in a fan shape for easy viewing, so that the stage feels close from every seat. The gently curved arrangement of the seats harmonizes with the hall's curvilinear interior, creating a sense of unity throughout the hall. In this renovation, the updated seating gives a strong impression of the new look.

Seats in the auditorium follow the design used in the renovation of the “Isu no Sankei Hall Suzuka”.

Before the renovation, the seating area was lined with seats reminiscent of sofas upholstered in two colors of fabric, red and brown, and connected closely to the adjacent seats. The seats chosen for the updated seating are the same seats as those installed during the major renovation of the “Isu no Sankei Hall Suzuka”, the Suzuka Civic Hall, in 2018. The same model was selected for the renewal of the Keyaki Hall due to its favorable reception after the replacement.
The TS-71 Series “Cadenza” has been used in many theaters and halls nationwide.
The backrest with its gentle 3D curves along the back bones of the seated person and the seat with polyurethane cushion and weight-dispersing serpentine springs provide firm support even during long viewing periods. The seat height has been set higher than before to accommodate the physique of contemporary users, and the width has been increased by 50 mm at maximum. The new seat provides more comfortable and less tiring seating than ever before.
In addition, the new gentle seat tipping mechanism, which automatically and slowly raises the seat when the seat is left, ensures that an unoccupied seat is always stored in a beautifully vertical position, maintaining the orderly appearance of the seating area. Since there is no risk of blocking a space in front of the seat, it contributes not only to smooth but also safe passage in case of emergency.

Special upholstery fabric with the city's symbolic flower design in different colors

The seats at “Isu no Sankei Hall Suzuka” were upholstered in a red fabric designed by FABRIKO, a Kotobuki Seating Group company, with a pattern of the city flower, satsuki azalea. This design, which evokes the image of mountain ranges and ocean waves as seen in the city's catchphrase, was so familiar to the residents that the blue upholstery with the same pattern was chosen for Keyaki Hall as well. To ensure its long-lasting beauty, it is made of a durable, wear-resistant moquette-like fabric.
When the seating was updated, sofas using the same fabric were also introduced in the foyer. The wood parts were made using locally grown cypress, creating a space with the warmth of the local community.

Facility Overview

Since its completion in 1988, the Suzuka City Cultural Hall has functioned as a central hub for civic cultural activities, but with numerous facilities that have deteriorated over time and exceeded their useful life, a large-scale renovation was undertaken to restore the building to its original state and improve its performance. The main hall, “Keyaki Hall,” has been transformed into a facility that further supports the cultural activities of the residents by conducting ceiling fall prevention work, updating the stage mechanism, sound system, and seating, and removing the planetarium and installing a new multipurpose dome instead.
