Project Description

A facility that retains its traditional charm through renovations, ensuring it is cherished by a wide range of users for years to come

Morita Tennis Center Utsubo has 16 all-weather hard courts, including a center court that can accommodate approximately 5,000 spectators. The facility is used for full-scale international tournaments as well as by Osaka citizens and is a favorite of tennis players. Since its opening in 1996, approximately 30 years have passed, and renovation work was undertaken due to the building's aging. Along with waterproofing, the seats were refurbished due to fading backrests, rusted metal parts, and peeling paint.
Considering the frequency of use of the FRP-1908 stadium seats in the stands, only the connecting pipes were replaced while keeping the seat platforms unchanged, reducing construction costs and shortening the construction period. This eco-friendly refurbishment replaced necessary parts while reusing those that were still functional. As part of the seat refurbishment, the number plates on all seats and the arm cup holders in VIP seats were also replaced.
The BLM-4152 stadium seating on the courtside showed fading and peeling paint but no significant damage, such as cracks. To enhance durability and resource efficiency, the existing legs were repainted and reused. Only the severely faded backrests were replaced with the two-piece BLM-5100 series stadium seats.

Comfortable, Space-Saving, and Durable. Smooth Movement When Standing

The backrest of the BLM-5100 series has a gentle curve that wraps around the body, reducing fatigue even after sitting for long periods of time. It also has a double shell hollow structure that absorbs shock when seated, reducing the burden on the back and hips.
The comfortable, space-saving design is not the only feature of the BLM-5100 series. The seats are highly durable and are blow-molded from high-density polyethylene. In addition to being resistant to cracking even when hit by tennis balls and other objects, it also features excellent heat and water resistance. It is resistant to deterioration even when exposed to direct sunlight or rain.
Another key feature of the two-piece type seat is that the seat flips up when unoccupied, ensuring the seat depth does not affect aisle dimensions. It provides more aisle space when standing and allows smooth movement when leaving a seat. Another major advantage is the ease of maintaining clear evacuation routes during disasters or emergencies.
In this renovation work, the bright, vivid green seats harmonize with the green of the tennis courts, bringing a sense of unity to the entire facility. Additionally, the facility was refurbished to maintain its traditional charm while incorporating reuse, transforming it into a place that will continue to be cherished for years to come.

Facility Overview

Morita Tennis Center Utsubo is a large tennis facility located within Utsubo Park. While it is popular for businesspeople to enjoy tennis after work, it has also hosted international tennis tournaments and been used for a wide variety of purpose. It serves as a hub for sports revitalization and is also an important disaster prevention center, designated as an emergency evacuation site during disasters.
