Project Description

The small hall evolves into a multi-purpose space after relocation to Omiya Kadomachi

Omiya Kadomachi, which opened in October 2021, is a large-scale complex facility housing commercial spaces such as restaurants and shops, along with banks, offices, and a Civic Hall. Easily accessible right outside the East Exit of Omiya Station—one of Saitama Prefecture's leading terminal stations—it serves as a bustling exchange hub for residents.
The Civic Hall, expected to foster and disseminate new culture and arts, features both large and small halls, just like the former facility. However, unlike the fixed seating of the previous small hall, which resembled the large hall, the design adopted movable seating upon relocating to Omiya Kadomachi to differentiate and expand the hall's functional uses.

Combining a retractable seating system with stacking chairs for flexible comfort

Of the Small hall’s total capacity of 340 seats, 252 are part of an electric retractable seating system, and the remaining 88 are stacking chairs. The hall can be configured using both types of chairs or only one, allowing for flexible adjustment of seating capacity and layout based on the event.
The retractable seating system is installed in the rear wall. Pressing the remote control iltiates the deployment, and the tiers slide out. Since the chairs also rise automatically, tiered audience seating can be set up easily and quickly by anyone, regardless of age or gender, proving invaluable for a high-utilization hall.
The hall-like impression of the seating is maintained even with movable seats by adopting the Type 5ATR chair, which features wood on the backrest and armrests. Despite its slim appearance, the polyurethane filling in the back and seat cushions provides a comfortable seating experience. The seat number plate was attached to the front of the backrest to prioritize visibility.
The stacking chairs are the "Axis" FC-310 series. The back and seat are upholstered in the same bright red as the retractable seating system chairs, contributing to a unified seating design despite the different chair styles. It features armrests that divide the seats, establishing personal space. The voluminous, dual-structure seat cushion ensures comfort even during long viewing sessions. It also includes floor-fixing hardware for neat arrangement, which prevents the chairs from shifting during passage or emergency evacuation. Six chairs can be stacked when placed on the floor, and a dedicated cart is used to store 12 chairs for transport.

Facility overview

RaiBoC Hall opened in April 2022, replacing the former Civic Hall that was loved by the local community for over half a century. Located on the fourth to eighth floors of the newly constructed large-scale complex facility "Omiya Kadomachi" at the East Exit of Omiya Station, it is widely used for concerts, plays, and various events, offering large and small halls, as well as conference rooms, exhibition rooms, studios, and a Japanese-style room.
