Project Description

A multipurpose hall distinctive of a hospital which provides medical care in the Okhotsk region

Kitami Red Cross Hospital is a very important medical institution. The hospital offers various advanced functions in the Okhotsk region in the northeastern part of Hokkaido. It is also currently undertaking the designated management of the neighboring Hokkaido Prefectural Kitami Hospital. The two hospitals are working together to enhance community-based medical care.

The North Building was expanded in the renovations carried out to mark the 80th anniversary of the hospital. The grand hall MINT was also opened. It was assumed from the initial planning stage that this hall will be used to hold a variety of events such as qualification courses for medical professionals, public lectures open to local residents and club activities for hospital staff. Therefore, Fully Automatic Telescopic Seating System (Telescopic Seating)
was introduced in the hall. This allows the audience seating to be created quickly as necessary.

Telescopic seating realizes venue setup in no hassle or time

Telescopic seating is a product which can create stepped audience seating by operating it with a remote control. This seating is usually stored compactly in the storage compartment with a depth of about 2,300 mm at the rear of the hall.

A remote switch is inserted into the connector to use the audience seating. When the button is pressed, a tiered platform first appears and then the seats folded on the floor of each stage are erected upright next. The 154-capacity stepped audience seating is completed in less than 10 minutes. The handrails at the rear which would get in the way during storage are also automatically folded. Therefore, almost no manual labor is required. This makes it easy to set up the venue quickly and easily with a small number of people.

Type 5 (current product: Type 5R) was chosen for the seats. These seats combine stable seating comfort with compactness at the time of storage. The wide backrest and seat firmly support the body when the user is sitting down to produce comfort. These seats are designed so it is easy to lower the seat and sit down because there is space between the backrest and the upright seats when no one is sitting in them.

Writing tablets have been established in anticipation that the seats will often be used in lectures to view documents and take notes. The writing tablets large enough to place A4-sized (Letter size in USA) documents on them can be pulled out only when needed and are then retractable. That means they do not get in the way when not in use.

The red color of the Red Cross for the seat upholstery brightens up the hall.

It has been approximately nine years since we supplied this seating. The retractable seating is playing a role in diverse events distinctive of a hospital such as Black Jack Seminars and courses for specialist medical qualifications.

Facility Overview

Kitami Red Cross Hospital was opened as the Notsukeushi Hospital of the Hokkaido Branch of the Japanese Red Cross Society in 1935. It is the core hospital for the community. It is the only hospital in the Okhotsk region with an emergency room. Due to deterioration to the facilities, a new ward was built on the site of the former Kitami City Hall Building in 2016 as part of efforts to revitalize the city center. The hospital is striving to further enhance emergency and acute medical care in cooperation with the neighboring Hokkaido Prefectural Kitami Hospital that is the only medical institution with a cardiovascular surgery department in the Okhotsk region.
