14101 Main lecture room, Bunkyo University Koshigaya Campus Building 14 LECRO
14101 Main lecture room,
Bunkyo University Koshigaya Campus Building 14 LECRO

Class Room
Project Description
A new large lecture hall designed for flexible, multipurpose use
In July 2022, Bunkyo University completed construction of Building 14, nicknamed LECRO, at its Koshigaya Campus.
The facility, designed to support learning, interaction, and diverse student activities, began full operation in the fall semester of the 2022 academic year.
Located on a campus shared by the Faculties of Education, Human Sciences, and Literature—where classroom demand had long been high—the new building has greatly improved scheduling flexibility and course flow.
The largest space within the building, the 14101 Main Lecture Room, was designed specifically to accommodate a variety of uses. From lectures and ceremonies to symposiums and club activities, the room can be configured with desks and chairs or left as an open flat-floor area, allowing for true versatility.
Retractable Seating System enables dynamic space utilization
The main lecture room features a fully automatic, wall‑mounted
Retractable Seating System
that deploys or retracts the tiered seating with the push of a remote switch.
An LCD display and voice-guided instructions guide users through each step, allowing the room to be reconfigured in minutes—even by first-time users.
The system consists of 11 rows, totaling 176 seats. Each seat is equipped with a personal folding tablet, stored in a sleek black compartment beneath the seat when not in use. Large enough to hold A3-sized documents, these tabletops also support laptops and other digital devices.
When desks and chairs on casters are arranged in front of the system, the room accommodates up to 371 participants, making it suitable for large-scale lectures and events.
Newly developed seats offer both comfort and design
The seating system uses the newly developed LIMS model, designed especially for educational and event settings.
Its gently curved back and seat surfaces are ergonomically contoured to cradle the body, with molded polyurethane cushions and soft-touch synthetic resin finishes providing both support and comfort.
The breathable mesh fabric helps maintain comfort during long sessions, while optional armrests and a generous 520 mm seat width offer additional ease.
Each seat features a balancing tipping mechanism: when vacated, the seat folds up automatically, leaving a small gap rather than folding completely flat against the backrest. This gap allows users to grip the seat easily when sitting down again. Pushing the folded seat back toward the backrest also helps secure legroom in the aisle, ensuring smoother traffic flow.
In addition to its ergonomic performance, the LIMS model presents a clean and modern aesthetic. The black frames—on the seats, storage units, and retractable system—are accented by bold red upholstery and cool gray tabletops, creating a stylish and contemporary lecture environment.
Facility overview
Situated immediately inside the main gate of Bunkyo University’s Koshigaya Campus, Building 14 LECRO was completed in July 2022.
The building is divided into two main zones: a “static zone” dedicated to classroom functions, and a “dynamic zone” designed for informal student use. This dual-zone structure supports a wide range of classes and extracurricular activities.
The name LECRO combines “LECTURE” and “ROOMS,” highlighting its role as a flexible, student-centered learning environment.
