Opened SHOWA DENKO Martial Arts Sports Facility in Oita sports park

In June 2019, the SHOWA DENKO Martial Arts Sports Facility, a new indoor sports hub in Oita Prefecture, had its grand opening. Located on the grounds of Oita Sports Park, adjacent to the 40,000-seat SHOWA DENKO Dome Oita, the home stadium of Oita Trinita of the J-League, a baseball field, tennis courts, and a large grass square, it is a place where people can enjoy various sports and recreational activities.

Facilities include the SHOWA DENKO Main Stadium, which can accommodate approximately 4,000 people, and the SHOWA DENKO Martial Arts Sports Facility, a 100m long and 24m wide area that can be divided into three dojos, training rooms, and conference rooms. The facility is capable of hosting large scale indoor sports competitions and is also expected to serve as a core facility for a wide-area disaster-prevention base in case of a major disaster.

Both the movable spectators on the first floor and the fixed seats on the second floor are made of wood to create a unified tone for the space.

The SHOWA DENKO Main Stadium is approximately 3,570 m2 in size. It is large enough for four basketball courts, 16 badminton courts, and eight for kendo and other martial arts competitions. The ceiling height is 12.5m, which can accommodate official volleyball matches. It is designed for a wide range of indoor sports.

Kotobuki Seating supplied moving spectator seats for the arena floor and fixed seats on the second spectator tier.

Retractable seating system, tiered mobile spectator seating can be deployed and stored as required. When the spectator seating is not required, it is stored on two longitudinal sides of the arena floor, and when set up, each unit is moved by a lifter trolley and installed as a complete unit.
There are 24 units in total, creating a layout in which the center court is surrounded by mobile spectator seating. This can create a powerful atmosphere for matches played on the center court, such as official Top League matches.

The retractable seating system feature a sleek black body and bench-style wooden chairs, seamlessly integrating with the black and wooden accents of the architectural walls. The absence of backrests in the bench design fosters continuity throughout the unit, harmonizing with the architectural elements and ceiling beams to establish a
cohesive spatial aesthetic.

On the second floor, fixed seating also employs wood as a material, aligning with the mobile spectator chairs. In contrast to the typical polyethylene chairs found in general arenas and stadium seating, the use of wood exudes sophistication in the spectator area.
The clean lines of the straight, flat backrests highlight the natural beauty of the wood, providing an elegant finishing touch to a space brimming with sporting excitement.

This marks the first step toward creating a user-friendly facility for the prefecture's citizens.
