Sojo Luminous Auditorium

School and UniversityAuditorium

Project Description

Sojo Luminous Auditorium was completed in August 2018 on the site of a school building that was damaged by the Kumamoto earthquake. The semicircle on the south side of the building is completely glass-paned and allows bright light to enter.

There are 832 seats, which can seat an entire grade for all faculties. The seats have a distinctive slim design, with a depth of 305-325mm when the seat is raised. There is only 850mm between the seats from front to back, but because the seats have a short depth, there is a wide path between the seats. Each seat has a storable table that is convenient for taking notes and placing laptops.

The fabric has colors that are similar to those in the university emblem. Spots of vivid yellow are scattered across a fresh blue. Threads of two colors were woven together to produce a three-dimensional fabric.
