Project Description

Since opening as a movie theater for the masses in 1969, POLE POLE IWAKI, which is the only movie theater in Iwaki City, has continued its locally based operations. It even carried out relief efforts through movies to help bring liveliness back to the deserted city after the Great East Japan earthquake of March 2011. In addition to these activities, POLE POLE IWAKI opened POLE POLE CINEMAS IWAKI ONAHAMA, the new cinema complex that it operates, in June 2018. The concept of this theater is Classic Hawaiian with a sense of hula dancing, the main tourist attraction of Iwaki City. The entrance and the interior of each screen have Hawaiian themes.

Implementation of Features that Are Popular in European Movie Theaters

POLE POLE CINEMAS IWAKI ONAHAMA has a total of 1,327 seats across 9 screens.

The all-laser projectors in every screen are worthy of special mention. These are large-scale projectors created by the European manufacturer BARCO that have maximum 4K resolution as the standard specification. AURO-MAX is also implemented for the sound in screen 1. This style is frequently implemented in European movie theaters instead of the Dolby Atmos that is widespread in the United States.

Relaxing Seats Realize a Comfortable Space for Watching Movies

Screen 1 has 321 seats, which is the most of all of the screens. Number plates with suede lining are attached to the backrests so that seat positions are clear to see at a glance in the spacious seating area. The yellow letters serve as an accent to the black fabric, making it easy to confirm the seats from afar, even if it is dark.

The width of each seat is 600 mm, which is among the largest for general movie theater seats in Japan. The thick backrests and seats are stuffed full of urethane cushioning, providing the feeling that the user is being absorbed into the seat. Certain screens have armrests with a wood grain design to provide a luxurious feeling to the seats.

The reverse side of the seatbacks have a hook for hanging belongings and an umbrella stand. Since the hook is deep, it is even possible to hang thick bag handles. In addition, since the seatbacks are covered with a synthetic resin, there is no need to worry about the seat getting wet from rain and dew even if you place an umbrella in the stand.

In addition to the highly varied lineup presented in partnership with TOHO cinemas, live shows, such as concerts and theaters, are performed frequently. This movie theater is attracting a lot of attention as a catalyst to reinvigorate Fukushima.
