The Biwako Hall Center for the Performing Arts Shiga, opened in September of 1998.
The Theatre plays host mostly to performing arts like theatre or dance. The stage has a large amount of depth to it and it can be adjusted in up to 9 tiers. An orchestra pit can also be created, meaning that the space works better for compact performances of opera or musicals than the Main Hall does.
The interior is coordinated in dark colors which give it the look of a black box. Even the seating differs from the bright designs of the seating in the Main Theatre and the Ensemble Hall, and instead it uses a dark blue tone. The feel of the fabric is smooth and suede-like. While it has a soft feel, the fabric also excels in terms of durability, and its highly resistant to friction and fraying.
The back of the seats also has cushioning split into two parts. The upper cushion covers from the shoulders to the shoulder blades, while the second cushion supports the lower back. This shaped cushioning was designed to fit perfectly with the S-shaped curve of the spine. When the audience is in their seats, the curve of the back will allow them to experience less fatigue during the performance.
