OKAYAMA MIRAI HALL,
AEONMALL OKAYAMA

Sep. 30,2015
Multipurpose Hall

Project Description

The Aeon Mall Okayama, which opened in front of Okayama Station, is one of the largest malls in western Japan. It includes the ‘Okayama Mirai Hall’ on the 5th floor, which opened its doors at the same time as the mall in December 2014.

Depending on the function to be held, the Okayama Mirai Hall is an event hall that can be converted into a variety of different formats: theatre-style, school-style, and, by moving the seating, all-flat. The use of a combination of moveable seating and stacking chairs makes it possible to change the format freely. From theatrical performances or concerts to collective use by the tenants of the Ion Mall, it can meet a variety of needs.

With seating for 464, the large-scale, moveable seating utilizes a new type of lightweight roll-back chair stand that has been recently developed to lower the strain on the floor. In conventional moveable audience seating, the second and third levels of seats stack on top of the front row for storage, but in this new type, the seats all fold into storage below the rear row.

The method by which the chairs are moved into storage. By moving into storage from the top down, it is possible to minimize strain on the floor.
The stacking chairs are stored beneath the stage using special trolleys. This allows the efficient utilization of dead space. The numbering on the chair backs is attached magnetically, facilitating easy application and removal. The seat numbering can be adapted according to the number of seats used.
