Nap Room, Kasuya Hokubu Fire Department
Nap Room,
Kasuya Hokubu Fire Department
Oct. 15,2021
Capsule Hotel / Nap Room
Project Description
Installation of capsule beds in the new nap room
In June 2021, capsule beds were installed in the new nap room at the Kasuya Hokubu Fire Department in Fukuoka Prefecture.
Till then, staff members used to take naps by laying out futons on tatami mats or using cots separated by curtains, but cramped space, noise, and smells posed problems for them.
For the ambulance team and fire department personnel, sleep is one of the most important things in order to be prepared for handling disasters. Therefore, we want to ensure a more comfortable napping environment for them. The staff was captivated by a capsule bed resembling a bunk bed with an enclosure.
Introduction of SPACE D2 for easy entry and exit even during emergency dispatch
We installed the '
SPACE D2
' series, in which the upper and lower capsule entrances are placed alternate to each other. Steps are placed directly under the entrance of the upper level, allowing easy access without contact with users of the lower level. This feature was the deciding factor for choosing these capsule beds, as it is ideal for firefighters and paramedics, who need to act quickly in an emergency.
This capsule bed is enclosed by walls on all sides except for the doorway. Pulling down the roll screen at the entrance turns the capsule bed into a completely private space, ensuring undisturbed relaxation. You can adjust the lighting inside the capsule to the desired brightness level and thus experience quality sleep.
There is a shelf for storing bedding supplies in front of the capsule bed. You can take your own bedding from the shelf and lay it out in the capsule when you want to nap. The separate storage ensures effective utilization of a limited space, thereby creating a comfortable napping environment.
Nap rooms with capsule beds were newly installed to accommodate the increasing number of personnel specializing in emergency services. An improved napping environment is expected to further improve the performance of the teams.
Facility Overview
The Kasuya Hokubu Fire Department, established in 1979, has jurisdiction over the city of Koga and the town of Shingu in Kasuya-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture. About 100 staff members belonging to this department stay prepared for local disasters on a daily basis.
The three-story government building which has been carefully used while undergoing expansion and renovation, was completed the following year. The decision of building a nap room was taken in 2021, following organizational changes and measures to prevent infectious diseases. There is a plan to develop facilities for the new female members coming aboard next year. We are working hard to create a comfortable working environment for our teams who are dedicated to saving the lives of the people in the community.
