Setsunan University Opens First Faculty of Agriculture in Osaka Prefecture

The Faculty of Agriculture of Setsunan University, which opened in April 2020, is the first faculty of agriculture in Osaka Prefecture where students can systematically learn a series of processes related to food and agriculture.
The newly constructed building for the Faculty of Agriculture is three stories high. Kotobuki Seating supplied fixed and movable desks and chairs for more than 20 classrooms and practice rooms on the second and third floors.
Some of the middle classrooms and small classrooms for active learning are lined with movable desks and chairs.

Desks that can be moved freely to accommodate "active learning"

Active learning requires layout changes in various situations, such as group work and presentations. During lectures, students themselves move their desks and chairs, so they need to be maneuverable and stable.
Therefore, the Active Learning Desk SD-610FF2 series and the CON-PALLE series were selected.

The SD-610FF2 series features Kotobuki Seating's unique caster movement system called the "Full Flutter Mechanism".
The legs have built-in casters that are linked to the levers under the top panel. The casters are stored inside the legs except when moving, so that the tips of the legs steadily touch the floor. When you want to move it, you can do so smoothly by grasping the lever under the top board to release the casters. Even sudden layout changes during a lecture can be done freely while leaving textbooks, notebooks, and other belongings on the desk.

A three-seat type was adopted for the middle classrooms, and a one-seat type was adopted for the small classrooms to accommodate various layouts.

Compact stacking chair that is light and portable

The chair combined with the SD-610FF2 series is the "CON-PALLE series" stacking chair, which is compact yet comfortable to sit on.
The seat is wide in depth, allowing you to comfortably maintain your writing and listening posture during lectures.
The seat is padded with a highly durable three-dimensional mesh, making it comfortable to sit on for long periods of time without feeling stuffy.
Weighing only 4.1 kg, the CON-PALLE series is ideal for active learning that requires frequent layout changes.

With the introduction of desks and chairs designed for ease of use, the classroom is an environment where students can actively participate. Expectations are high for this new field of learning.

Facility Overview

At the Faculty of Agriculture of Setsunan University, students can learn about the series of processes involved in the food and agriculture business while actually experiencing them in the field.
The newly constructed Building 8 (approx. 18,000m2, equivalent to 70 tennis courts) is equipped with a rich learning environment, including classrooms, a plant culture room with temperature and humidity control, and a food service business management laboratory with the latest cooking equipment for practical learning.
On the Hirakata campus, a farm has also been newly established, and hands-on learning such as farm practice is incorporated.
