Project Description

Setsunan University's newly constructed Faculty of Agriculture building on its expansive campus

In April 2020, the Faculty of Agriculture, the first of its kind in Osaka Prefecture, was established at Setsunan University.
The three-story building of the Faculty of Agriculture, newly constructed in a corner of the expansive Hirakata campus, has more than 20 classrooms and practice rooms ranging from small to large classrooms on the second and third floors.
Kotobuki Seating supplied fixed and movable desks and chairs for these classrooms.

Desks and chairs with a swing-up mechanism for interactive lectures

In the large and medium classrooms, fixed desks and chairs with excellent mobility have been adopted to accommodate interactive lectures. As the number of interactive lectures between students and instructors increases in the future, it is expected that students will stand up and speak during lectures. For this reason, we needed desks and chairs that are easy to get in and out of, and that allow for smooth sitting and standing on the spot.
Therefore, the SD-331 series of swing-up lecture chairs was selected. The same series of desks and chairs had already been used at the Neyagawa Campus, and the fact that they were well received by faculty and students was also a deciding factor in the product selection.

The feature of SD-331 series is Kotobuki Seating's unique "swing-up mechanism" that allows the seat to move gently in accordance with the movement of seating. Compared to the general "flip-up" type seat, it allows a wider space around the thighs of the seated student, thus enabling smooth seating.

There is no need to lower the seat of the chair by hand in order to sit down. Even while carrying luggage, you can sit comfortably by sliding your buttocks in line with the seat surface. It also allows for quick movements when standing up, and allows for fast-paced speech during lectures. When the chair is unoccupied, the seat faces the front, so there is no need to worry about the seat getting dirty even if the shoes of students sitting behind you hit it.

This mechanism also allows the seat to operate efficiently and not interfere with the desk, thus allowing for a larger top panel. This is a great feature for students who need a large space to place their materials and write during lectures.

Comfortable chair that fits your body supports your learning posture

The back of the synthetic resin chair has a three-dimensional curved surface that conforms to the back and supports correct listening and writing postures.
The seat is padded with a highly durable three-dimensional mesh. Which is highly breathable, allowing you to sit comfortably for long periods of time without feeling stuffy.

In addition, to allow students in wheelchairs to attend classes as they are, some of the seats are equipped with movable stacking chairs called the CON-PALLE series. If necessary, the chairs can be removed to be used as wheelchair seats.

The chairs are upholstered in bright colors such as navy and green, creating a refreshing classroom space suitable for learning.

The large and medium classrooms are equipped with fixed desks and chairs that allow for smooth seating and interactive lectures. This is expected to enhance students' concentration and motivate them to learn even more.

Facility Overview

The Faculty of Agriculture at Setsunan University conducts education and research to systematically study a series of processes related to food and agriculture, and to acquire a broad perspective and practical knowledge and skills.
The school building, designed with the themes of "learning together anytime, anywhere" and "feeling nature," welcomes students with its stylish bamboo-like exterior and warm wood-grained interior.
The 8210 classroom (large classroom), which can accommodate approximately 500 students, are equipped with a system that allows remote learning by connecting them to classrooms at the Neyagawa Campus. In addition to the classrooms, there is a plant culture room where temperature and humidity can be controlled, and a food service management laboratory where students can learn practically with the latest cooking equipment.
