Project Description

The reopening of the new PLELA HALL

In March 2020, after 20 years since its opening, the PLELA HALL was renovated to better meet the needs of local residents.
The stage has been extended to the audience side, and flower paths have been added on both sides to accommodate a grand piano. In addition, the front two rows of seats are now removable, allowing for more intimate performances of opera, theater, ballet, and Japanese dance.

The new seats are a contemporary design made by Quinette Gallay

The original seats, which had been used for nearly 20 years since the opening of the theater, were made by Quinette Gallay, a long-established French manufacturer of theater seats. Also, these were characterized by their thick, round-trimmed backs, quilted windowpane patterns, and round armrests with joints.
In order to maintain the image of the museum since its opening, the new seats were upholstered in red by Quinette Gallay.
The new seats are square backboards and modern in design.
The backboard, trimmed square when viewed from the front, has a three-dimensional curved surface that follows the S-curve of the spine when seated and wraps around the entire back. In addition, the horizontal use of the wood grain creates a flowing rhythm throughout the hall when viewed from the back.
The neat appearance is due to the center support type where one seat is supported by a single leg in the center. It provides "deflection" when seated, and together with the exquisite shape and softness of the polyurethane foam, it creates the "soft, enveloping comfort" that is a characteristic of the Quinette Gallay.
Existing anchor bolts were reused for anchoring to the floor, minimizing the construction period and noise to the houses above the hall.

The seating coordinated with the white wood to match the interior and the bright red upholstery gives the PLELA HALL a sense of both tradition and newness. With the revival of soft and comfortable seating, the auditorium is beginning to carve out a new history.

Facility Overview

The name PLELA HALL was coined from the English word "pleasure" and the French word "La," meaning "there," and was inspired by the image of a place of relaxation and gathering in the city. The hall actively supports active cultural activities such as support programs for young artists, and provides a suitable place for creativity and exchange.
Since its opening, the hall has been used by many citizens for lectures and piano recitals, but due to its aging and further improvement of its functions, it was renovated and reopened in March 2020.
