Capsule Hotel / Nap Room

Project Description

‘Sleeping Pods’ that combine ideas and concepts put forward by both designer and producer. Unlike the conventional capsule beds produced by Kotobuki Seating in the past, these are of a completely different shape, presenting a series of curved lines. It all started during discussions with a designer when he asked, ‘Is it possible to produce something along these lines…?’ Production research was initiated and in 2009, Nine Hours opened to the public.

Even today, large FRP products like capsule beds have to be produced individually by skilled workers. They are made in sections that are then jointed together to create the finished product. Each of the sections must be produced to exacting standards in order for them to fit together perfectly. For us to realize the original image, it was necessary to employ the knowhow and knowledge accrued from Kotobuki Seating’s long experience in FRP production with the craftsmen adding their own skills to the basic blueprints.

Nine Hours truly represents a ‘new form of accommodation’. It revolutionizes the image of the capsule hotel and has received great interest from overseas.
