Arts United, in partnership with Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC), has released a new video exploring the renovation of the historic Arts United Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with a focus on universal design and accessibility. Designed by architect Louis Kahn, the venue recently underwent a major renovation to create a more accessible and inclusive space for the community. The full video is now available on YouTube, with Kotobuki Seating’s custom accessibility solutions featured from around the 27-minute mark.

The video highlights Arts United’s approach to accessibility, which goes beyond meeting basic ADA requirements, with a focus on creating an inclusive experience without compromising the building’s historic character. To support this vision, Kotobuki Seating International, a Kotobuki Seating Group company, supplied 725 custom TSA-71 seats. The auditorium incorporates flexible roll-away seats that can be removed to create wheelchair spaces alongside companion seats, giving patrons with mobility needs greater freedom in choosing where they sit. Selected aisle chairs also feature smooth swing-out transfer armrests, complemented by high-contrast seat numbers, glare-free aisle lighting, and ergonomic cushioning.

Together, these solutions help Arts United create a more accessible and welcoming experience while preserving the character of this historic cultural venue. We invite our partners and clients to watch the video and learn more about the universal design approach at Arts United Center.
