Project Description

The stadium seating that was replaced in the 2017 renovation

Nissan Stadium is beginning to change now. In the 20 years since its opening in 1998, it has been used as the stage for numerous sports and entertainment events, including the finals of the 2002 World Cup soccer tournament. Currently, renovation is being done towards the Rugby World Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

The important point of renovation for the stadium seating was to do construction while continuing to use the stadium for daily events. The adopted method was to use the seat legs and connecting pipes as is, and to renew only the upper seat part. Since it required no processes of installing new anchor bolts, the construction period could be shortened to less than one third of the time it would have taken with a conventional method.

The implemented product is a two-piece, spring-up type Stadium Seating where the back and the seat are separated. It automatically springs up when someone leaves the seat, and the seat becomes folded when it is vacant. The depth of the seat when it is vacant has become more compact compared to the previous seating where the seat was fixed, enlarging the passage space by about 10 centimeters. The depth of the seat surface has also increased. The slight indentation on the seat provides the proper fit when sitting. Even with long periods of watching games and events, it produces a comfortable seating experience.
