Project Description

Gressitt Chapel was named after James Fullerton Gressitt, a missionary who dedicated himself to education since the establishment of Kanto Gakuin.

It is used not just as a place for daily worship, but also for ceremonies such as entrance and graduation ceremonies and grade assemblies.

Improvement works were done to make voices easier to hear

Improvement works on Gressitt Chapel in the summer of 2017.

The main aim of the improvement was to improve the acoustics. Before the improvement, there was a problem of sounds echoing too much, making the voices hard to hear. During the improvement, all the walls and ceiling were demolished and remade using highly sound absorbent material. The sitting portion of the seats were made thicker, and the entire portion was covered with fabric to improve sound absorbing effects.

Seats that provide correct posture and comfort resulting in focus during worship

The height of the backrests were made to be lower than general Auditorium Seating. This is to prevent resting with the entire back, to straighten the back muscles and correct posture. The backrest and seat pad were also made thin. They are made so that students that sit down will not relax too much, and their bottoms will also not hurt.

A box wide enough to position a bible and hymn side by side was newly fixed onto the back of the seat
