Project Description

"Tsuruoka Art Culture Terrace", which is known as a base for artistic activities of Tsuruoka City

Tsuruoka Cultural Hall is a center for cultural and artistic activities in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture. The former cultural hall, which opened in 1971, was demolished due to its age, and in August 2017, the new Cultural Hall was constructed with a brand new look. Located in the Shonai Plain and surrounded by beautiful mountains, the exterior of the facility was carefully designed to reflect the surrounding mountain ranges and to avoid obscuring the view of the mountain ridge lines.

The facility's nickname, "Tact Tsuruoka," decided through a public vote, comes from the initial letters of Tsuruoka, Art, Culture, and Terrace, and the conductor's baton (Tact). In September of the same year, Shonai Bank acquired the naming rights and named it "Tsuruoka Art Culture Terrace." The opening performance of the Multi-Purpose Hall took place in March 2018, drawing attention from within and outside the city.

A bright and gorgeous main hall with white cranes flying

The architecture of the main hall features an image of soft, overlapping ceilings and continuous curved wooden surfaces. The interior is heavily wooded and is designed to resemble a hagoromo (a celestial robe) woven from natural wood.

The audience seating area is done in the style of a three-dimensional vineyard. It is a space close to the stage and allows you to enjoy the full range of sound with a sense of realism. It is expected to be used as a multi-purpose hall that can accommodate not only concerts but also a wide range of events such as plays, ceremonies, and lectures, since the vineyard-shaped hall is also equipped with a main and a split curtain, as well as incorporating a flower path.

There are 1,120 seats on both the first and second floors. While eye-catching colors like red are commonly used for audience seating in most theaters and halls, this hall displays a glossy light salmon pink for the upholstery of its seats. The figure of a white flying crane woven throughout the upholstery, combined with the plain wood used for the hall's floor, offers a bright and gorgeous impression for welcoming auspicious events.

The backrest and the legs of the dark brown seats offer a contrast to the many light colors. The rear of the backrest is decorated with a plank of natural wood to support the plump back cushion. Similar to the backrests, the armrests are also made of natural wood, essential for tactile sensation. The steel tube legs are designed to be straight and thin to make the cushion volume and the beauty of the upholstery stand out.

The seat cushions feature corrugated springs that distribute body pressure evenly, as well as high-density molded urethane that is resistant to losing shape. Not only is it visually beautiful, but it is also designed to provide a comfortable experience for art appreciation.

As a facility to promote art and culture from the Tohoku region, it is expected to be a great facility.
