Matsumoto Performing Arts Centre

Theater / Hall

Project Description

Matsumoto Performing Arts Center is a cultural center with a seating capacity of 1,800, an experimental theatre, and studios. The main hall can accommodate full-scale operas and it has been selected as the main venue for the 'Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto', one of Japan's largest music festivals, mainly featuring orchestra and opera.

In this facility, the ceiling can be raised and lowered, the number of seats can be reduced to 700, and the reflected sound can be adjusted. By adjusting the capacity, an appropriate acoustic environment for various performing arts such as theatre, ballets, classical music, and conventions can be created.

The color tone of the walls and the seating area is a brilliant red, changing so that the blackness gradually increases towards the stage. It gives an elegant feel, and also enhances audience concentration on the stage, during a performance.

The hall's aesthetically designed chairs are one of its most striking characteristics, with intricate designs based on ergonomics and well chosen materials, for audience comfort. To ensure comfortable seating and good posture, the front and back seats' back height and head position are designed to give a smooth viewing experience.
