Project Description
Gunma Prefecture's first full-scale hall dedicated to music
In September 2019, Takasaki City Theatre opened at the east exit of Takasaki Station.
The 412-seat music hall is the first full-scale music hall in Gunma Prefecture. The hall is shoe-box shaped with a high ceiling, suitable for concerts and recitals. The gentle warmth of the wood felt from the interior allows visitors to enjoy the rich and authentic resonance of sounds.
Balcony seating is provided on either side of the hall, and a multi-purpose room for parents and children is provided in the rear.
The design features abundant wood and mohair upholstery.
The chairs in the auditorium are custom-designed for the Concert Hall.
The wood used abundantly to match the interior is painted a bright, glossy, natural color. The clear wood grain blends with the louvers on the walls, creating a connection between the seating and the interior.
In addition, by narrowing the upper part of the back panel, each seat stands out clearly, creating a space where one can immerse oneself in the music. The tapered crest rail is made of solid wood, creating a sense of high quality. The grain of the back panel is vertical, but the crest rail part is horizontal. This small difference gives accent to the calm design.
Accompanying the warm image of wood is a classical and elegant beige upholstery made of angora goat hair. It was proposed by the textile designers at
Fabriko Co., Ltd.
It has a smooth, beautiful luster that is captivating yet highly durable, and has earned a reputation for being suitable for full-scale music halls. The wavy stripe pattern, created by stamping on plain moquette, also creates a sense of affinity with the chairs of the Grand Theatre.
Chairs for relaxing and enjoying music
The straight back panel is fitted with a three-dimensionally shaped cushion pad that follows the curve of the spine in the sitting posture. The thick seat pan incorporates a corrugated spring that disperses body pressure and, together with the back cushion, provides a comfortable and spacious seating position.
In addition, the seat is equipped with a "Gentle seat tip-up mechanism" that slowly returns the seat to its original upright position when the seated person stands up. No vibrations or thumps are generated, keeping the hall quiet and preventing the seat from hitting people's legs. It is a gentle design that pursues the comfort of the audience.
Facility Overview
Takasaki City Theatre opened in September 2019, inheriting and evolving the history and spirit of Gunma Music Center built in 1961, as a theater to create and transmit new Takasaki urban culture. Located at the east exit of JR Takasaki Station, it boasts excellent accessibility. In addition to the Grand Theatre, Studio Theatre, and Concert Hall, there are nine studios, and the facility is highly expected to become a place for "appreciation, creation, and transmission" of various genres of music and performing arts in Takasaki — a city of music.
