Project Description

Kenmei Girls' School wants its students to be lighthouses

Since 2018, Kenmei Girls' Junior and Senior High School has been promoting the 'Rivier Project' to achieve its educational philosophy of raising its students into lighthouses that would illuminate the world around them. Many educational reforms are implemented, such as a junior high course system tailored to students' academic abilities and goals, and new teaching methods. This project also includes improving the learning environment, including classroom renovations.
In 2021, the school's 70th anniversary, a new space was created by combining two less used classrooms. Classroom 632 has been transformed into a large flexible space with a flat front and a stepped back.
The school staff chose the furniture we delivered after actually touching and feeling it.

Herringbone-patterned desks and chairs brightening up the classroom

On the front flat floor of the classroom, we used THE HERRINGBONE SD-264 desks and FC-873 stacking chairs. This combination was chosen from many products.
The key selling point was its unusually stylish industrial design. The desks and chairs were designed by Keita Shimizu, a prolific product designer. They have a well-known fabric weaving pattern, herringbone. The adornment transforms the ordinary classroom into a serene and cheery place. With the burgundy chair upholstery, it creates a resplendent and soft mood, matching the atmosphere of Kenmei Girls School, which respects individual freedom of thought. From the back of the classroom, Intuitive, the 'translucent' design and pattern helps to calm the usually tense classroom atmosphere.
One of the reasons for choosing it is its unique design and attention to detail. The 9.7 kg desk and 4.1 kg chair are light enough for even the girl students to carry. The combination product is 'light', suitable for various layouts, and can be used for events such as school information sessions and PTA meetings. A neat L-shaped desk leg gives you plenty of leg room. The leg bases are low to prevent feet from getting caught, making it safe and easily accessible.
Despite its wide and deep seat, the chair is compact and comfortable. The three-dimensional curves of the back and seat perfectly fit the body shape, allowing for long periods of sitting without fatigue. The chair structure supports students' posture while writing and listening in class, allowing them to focus on the lecture.

The SD-331 series for your comfort

The stepped floor at the back of the classroom has fixed desks and chairs of the SD-331 series. This product was chosen without hesitation due to its ease of use.
Seat movement is gentle due to the unique "swing-up" mechanism. You can comfortably sit and stand up even while carrying luggage.
The SD-331 is a desk and chair combination that maximizes space while maintaining chair width and depth. The seat is fully padded for extra comfort.
When not in use, the seat can be pushed further into the backrest, widening the aisle. It can be used comfortably both on campus and when visitors from outside visit the school.

Classroom 632 has great design and functionality. It will be used more frequently and will be the school's representative classroom.

Facility Overview

Kenmei Girls' Academy Junior and Senior High School was founded in 1951 and is surrounded by the moat, stone walls, and ruins of the gate of Himeji Castle, a World Heritage site. The school's motto is "The Best," which means to pray to God and strive for excellence in all situations, as told by the school's founder, Marie Rivier.
In addition to cross-studying science and humanities, it promotes ICT education using tablets and educating girls in science and mathematics. Thanks to its Rivier Project, launched in 2018, the school is actively renovating classrooms while preserving the school's historic atmosphere.
