The Planetarium with a new model of projector, which fulfilled the dreams of a prefecture’s people
July 24th, 2017, marked the opening of OTEPIA, a library, braille library, and science museum in Kochi city, Kochi. Located in the entrance to the 5th floor Kochi MIRAI Science Center is the first Planetarium in the prefecture since another Planetarium closed 40 years ago.
Inside the 12-meter diameter dome, is an OPHEUS planetarium, a new model from GOTO Inc., combined with the full sky video system VIRTUARIUMX, to create the ORPHEUS HYBRID system.
Lined up as if to blend into the sky are 82 Planetarium specific seats. The dark blue textile used to upholster the seats blends well with the carpet of the floor, and helps to pull eyes towards the white screen on the ceiling.
The seats are made of molded urethane, which is good at retaining its shape, and the waved metal springs used inside are excellent at evenly distributing the pressure on the body. This is a special shape developed from the skills honed over many years by KOTOBUKI SEATING, and designed to reduce the burden on the body as much as possible, making it a comfortable seat for relaxing.
Child friendly, pleasant, and clean universal design
All seats are equipped with reclining functionality. The lever to operate the seat can be operate without much force, allowing children to use it as well. When the user leaves their seat, the back will automatically rise-up and lock, preventing unseated children from injuring themselves while recklessly moving the back.
The backs of the seats are made from synthetic resin to prevent passersby or people in rows behind from accidentally kicking and damaging or dirtying the seat. This is a durable build, and dirt can be removed easily by wiping. In addition to operability and safety, durability and cleanliness have also been carefully considered.
